I saw Garth Johnson speak this past weekend at the Museum of Contemporary Craft. He recently curated a show there, now on display, called Era Messages. It engages the issues of relegating craft, style, and design specificities to particular eras. "Can't we see beyond the surface of an object?" he asked, imploring to understand a craft object as something existing to a culture, beyond it's stylistic nods.

He also reminded one that it isn't just the fashion world in which a person can gain cred through the blog world...i.e. theSartorialist and the Style Rookie (Tavi Gevinson); he received a tenure-track professorship because of his blog essentially. Which just happens to be kind of awesome. All sorts of cooky and wonderful on there.

Pictured -- a very '90s-looking teapot from the MoCC's collection, on display in Era Messages. Regardless of the message, I really truly hate this garish purple color, which is EVERYWHERE, in the likes of (Disney) animation in particular.
